For many types of data it is beneficial or even necessary to smooth the data before further processing. This allows the forecasting system to filter out noise and provide more robust estimates of data used in and for forecasts and analyses. Our Dynamic Data Mining software uses various smoothing algorithms for this purpose. Both symmetric and asymmetric smoothing can be performed, and the amount of smoothing can be adjusted to suit the particular application.
